AFFORDABLE HOUSING
One of the most significant concerns for the LGBTQ+ community and multicultural individuals is safe, affordable housing.
Airquality Movement is committed to ensuring that members of the LGBTQ+ and multicultural community have access to safe and fair housing, to addressing and preventing homelessness, and ending all forms of discrimination in housing, services, and shelters.
Today’s challenges call for urgent attention
Discrimination: Many individuals face discrimination in housing based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or race making it harder to find safe and affordable places to live.
Homelessness: LGBTQ+ individuals are disproportionately affected by homelessness, often due to family rejection. Similarly, people from multicultural backgrounds may face housing instability due to economic barriers or discrimination.
Rising Costs: As housing costs increase in many areas, finding affordable options becomes even more challenging, exacerbating issues of and insecurity and instability.
What is the plan?
We teamwork with our clients who face barriers for housing. Our trained staff will guide the community to self-advocate, navigate, and break the cycle of giving up on one’s self; providing the resources needed to make a positive impact in their lives and in the community.
Together we can navigate, network with property managers and sustain a great communication between the tenants and landlords, to ensure smooth permanent housing. With this tool the tenants will gain a positive habit in maintaining their housing, creating a budget plan, and keep self encouragement into their everyday lives. The basic underlying principle is that persons are better able to move forward with their lives once the crisis of homelessness is over and they have control over their housing.
WE ARE HERE TO HELP !!
Airquality Movement will help our community by creating a budget plan and highlight the importance of keeping track of their own expenses. This will ensure that they will prepare for any future barriers that can interfere with their housing.
Tenant Rights
Right to Habitable Housing: Landlords must provide rental units that are safe, clean, and fit for human habitation. This includes adequate plumbing, heating, and structural integrity.
Protection Against Discrimination: It is illegal for landlords to discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, nationality, familial status, or disability.
Privacy Rights: Tenants have the right to privacy. Landlords must give reasonable notice (usually 24 hours) before entering the rental unit.
Security Deposits: Landlords can charge a security deposit, but it cannot exceed two months’ rent for unfurnished units or three months’ rent for furnished units. Deposits must be returned within 21 days after a tenant moves out, minus any legitimate deductions.
Understanding your rights and responsibilities is crucial for both tenants and landlords in California. For any specific issues or legal advice, consulting a legal professional or local housing authority is recommended.
